Common questions
Can't find your answer here? Call us, or if you're an established patient, send a message in the Charm patient portal.
How long are visits?
New patient visits are scheduled for up to two hours, though some take an hour to an hour and a half. Follow-up visits usually last 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how your child is doing and how complex things are.
Does my child need to be there for the whole visit?
Dr. Heck needs to see your child to evaluate and observe them. For the longer first visit, younger or non-verbal children can join for part of the time instead of the whole visit.
Does a parent or guardian need to be at the visit?
Yes. For patients under 18, a parent or legal guardian must give consent for each visit and for any change to the treatment plan. A parent's view also matters for good care: children and teens aren't always aware of, or ready to talk about, problems that are easier for the people around them to see.
Do you take insurance?
We do not currently accept any insurance, including Medicaid. We can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
How much do visits cost?
A new patient evaluation is $750. A typical follow-up is $200, and an extended follow-up is $400. See the fee schedule for everything else.
How often will we need appointments?
Patients who are stable are seen about every three months. While treatment is being adjusted, visits are usually monthly until things settle.
How do we schedule a new patient visit?
Fill out the new patient request form with your child's details and a short description of what you'd like help with. Every request is reviewed, and we'll get back to you by email. Sending a request doesn't guarantee an appointment. If Treehouse is a good fit, you'll be offered times, complete intake forms in the Charm patient portal, and receive a Zoom link with your appointment confirmation.
Are visits in person or online?
Care is provided by secure video telehealth for families anywhere in Virginia. In-person visits are rare and arranged directly with Dr. Heck.
Do you see adults?
No. Treehouse currently sees only children and teens. Established patients typically remain with the practice after they turn 18.
